AFRICA COMES IN THE GASTRONOMY SPOTLIGHTS WITH THE FIRST BOCUSE D’OR AFRICA EVENT AND THE CONTINENTAL SELECTION OF COUPE DU MONDE DE LA PATISSERIE

On June 29th and 30th, the best chefs and pastry chefs of the African continent will meet under the sun of Marrakech (Morocco), at the Palmeraie Golf Palace Hotel. One objective for these young talents: to win a ticket for the finale of the world’s most prestigious gastronomy and pastry contests, Bocuse d’Or and Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, scheduled to take place in Lyon (France) in January 2019 during the Sirha trade show.

30 years ago, Paul Bocuse, the Chef of the Century, imagined a live show gastronomy contest, bringing the chefs out of their kitchens. Today, 24 candidates from the entire world compete during 5:35 of an intense and challenging Finale, mixing technique and creativity to obtain the grail of gastronomy: the Bocuse d’Or.

For the first time in the history of the competition, a continental selection takes place in Africa, along with the Americas, Asia-Pacific and European selections. On June 30th, 6 teams will defend their colors and try to access the Finale in Lyon (France) in January 2019 through the 2 remaining seats: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia.

More than just a springboard for these chefs, the Bocuse d’Or Africa reflects the new emerging countries in the “Haute Gastronomy” world.

On the eve of this outstanding event, on June 29th, Marrakech will welcome the 4th African selection of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie. 8 national teams composed of one chocolate specialist and one sugar specialist will have 5 hours to create one frozen fruit dessert and 10 desserts on a plate, displayed on a sculpture made of chocolate, and a one made of sugar.

Algeria, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia will have to be original and precise to realize exceptional pastry creations and qualify for the world Finale of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, in January 2019 in Lyon (France).
