A few hours before they stepped on stage, the 10 chefs competing on day 2 of competition at Bocuse d’Or Europe have discovered that they will also have to use Barilla Spaghetti for their recipe, this time Barilla spaghetti n°7. The contestants have spent an entire day wondering what would be their mystery ingredient, without knowing they already had it under their eyes! They will now have to improvise, as their competitors, to include this famous pasta in their recipe.
The secret is now revealed for both mystery ingredients to be used by the competing chefs of the 2018 Bocuse d’Or Europe: Spaghetti n°3 and n°7 from Barilla sponsor have been chosen, for their strong symbol of host country gastronomy, their iconic shape and unique flavour.
As explained by Enrico Crippa, chef of restaurant “Piazza Duomo” ***, Chairman of the Italian Bocuse d’Or Academy and President of Bocuse d’Or Europe 2018:
“Dry pasta is a fundamental protagonist of Italian cuisine and culinary art and I have argued to make Bocuse d’Or Europe 2018 appreciate its precious value as a fine food, and to bring it to this competition. This way, we show that pasta can play many different roles in a menu, but that most of all, it is a food which, over the years, has become representative of haute cuisine.”
Pasta is now the evenly shared improvisation challenge for all the chefs of the 2018 Bocuse d’Or Europe!
